On Mother’s Day, let’s celebrate the pleasure of watching mums failing badly

Image

By the time I caught up with  “Mother’s Day with Carole Middleton” , it was too late to plan a festive brunch, working to a rose gold colour palette, where we would celebrate “being thankful for motherhood and all the things the amazing women in your life do every single day”. Likewise, I refuse to see it as a commentary on my own attempts at mothering that my daughter will not, as Carole proposes, be transforming the dining table (NB, it’s not too late!) “into an Instagram-worthy setting with an abundance of spring flowers and foliage, an oversized balloon, a decorative table cloth and runner, and tea lights”. At least we’ll be able to sit together, mother and daughter, lovingly picturing the scene in Kensington Palace. At this moment, the Duchess of Cambridge reclines beneath a bespoke banner from Party ...

Browns to trade Danny Shelton to Pats for conditional pick

Image
The  Cleveland Browns  are trading defensive tackle Danny Shelton to the New England Patriots for a conditional draft pick, league sources told Field Yates. The trade, which can't officially be announced until Wednesday, when the 2018 league year begins, is the fourth trade the Browns have agreed to since Friday. On Friday, the Browns traded for  Miami Dolphins  wide receiver Jarvis Landry, Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor and  Green Bay Packers  cornerback Damarious Randall in separate deals. The 6-foot-2, 335-pound Shelton entered the NFL as a first-round draft choice of the Browns in 2015 (No. 12 overall). He has played in 46 regular-season games (45 starts), totaling 71 tackles and 1.5 sacks. The University of Washington alum was a highly touted prospect coming out of college, in part because of his strength at the line of scrimmage against the run. Shelton, 24, is scheduled to earn a base salary of $2.03 million in 2018. The Patri...

Cleveland Cavaliers: Is Jeff Green in or out of the Cavs playoff rotation?

Image
The Cleveland Cavaliers are under 20 games away from the postseason, and their rotation will quickly be trimmed from 10 to 8. Will Jeff Green make the cut? Last postseason, Lue cut the rotation from 10 players to 8, so it’s assumed he’ll do the same in a just a few weeks. Players like Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson were the two men out while Deron Williams, Iman Shumpert, and Kyle Korver were the three non-starters to see over 15 minutes per game. It’s assumed that the starting lineup will stay George Hill, JR Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love, and Larry Nance Jr. After those five, the time will be split up by Green, Osman, Clarkson, Hood, and Thompson. From there, it’s obvious both Rodney Hood and Jordan Clarkson are bound to get time. Hood is a capable, lengthy shooter. Clarkson can handle and do the playmaking for the second unit as well. That last spot will be up in the air, and Jeff Green has certainly not helped his case since the all-star break. In his five...

President Trump to talk tax cuts, economy at Boeing in St. Louis

Image
President Trump is expected to visit St. Louis to discuss the benefits of his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on Wednesday.  (Associated Press) After negotiating a savings of more than $1 billion on the order for the next Air Force One, President Donald Trump will visit a Boeing plant during a visit to Missouri next week. Wednesday's scheduled trip will be his third to the Show Me State since taking office — and first since passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the  St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported . At Boeing’s St. Louis plant Trump is expected to talk taxes during what the White House described as a “roundtable discussion” focusing on the projected benefits of the tax bill, which the president signed into law in December, the newspaper reported. According to Friday’s jobs report, U.S. employers added 313,000 jobs in February, more than forecast, and saw moderate wage growth and continued low unemployment. Trump’s trip to the Boeing facility follows an informal...

Manchester United still waiting for Sanchez to shine

Image
Alexis Sanchez looks on during his Premiership debut with Manchester United, against Huddersfield Town. Photo: Reuters MANCHESTER  –  Jose Mourinho admits he has not got the best out of Alexis Sanchez since his January transfer because the former Arsenal forward moved to Manchester United at the "wrong" time. Sanchez was signed in a swap deal that reportedly made him the Premier League's best-paid player but the Chile international has scored just one goal in eight United appearances, well below his career strike rate. Mourinho, whose team take on Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday, believes it will be next season before the 29-year-old shows his best form. "What is wrong is that he came at the worst moment of the season, in the winter market," said the Manchester United boss. "That's why I don't like the winter market very much.  "I think this was a chance that we didn't want to lose and we made. But we don't b...

‘Real Time’: Kathy Griffin Sets Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center Comeback Gigs

Image
Kathy Griffin  has left her apologetic phase long behind, and it suits her: The comic announced on HBO’s  Real Time With Bill Maher  tonight that she’s booked performances at New York’s Carnegie Hall and Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center. Soon after her appearance, Griffin tweeted to confirm the news. “Great news – I’m heading back to Carnegie Hall in New York! Tickets will be on sale next week.” (See the tweet below.) “I’m dipping my toes into touring again even though the Trumps and nobody wants me to work again,” she told Maher. “I just booked today, I’m going to do a show at Carnegie Hall in New York and I’m also going to go right to Trump’s back yard and do a show at the Kennedy Center.” “Kathy Griffin!,” said Maher. “Triumphant!” Griffin, of course, watched her career nosedive after she posted a photo of herself last May holding a bloody severed dummy head with a Donald Trump mask. She told Maher she saw her career vanish “overnight,” and watched as...

Bairstow replied with a mammoth 104 from just 58 balls, making it the third fastest century by any English batsman. The opener went on the score 155 and hit the winning runs with a huge six. The main source of support came from Alex Hales who knocked 61 as England stormed to victory. Shorthanded Cavs Can't Rally Past Clippers in L.A.

Image
Jordan's Big Night, Cavs Injuries Help Snap Five-Game Road Win Streak Wrap-Up  -- The Cavaliers were in an uphill fight all night on Friday in L.A. – struggling to overcome a slow start, a pair of injuries and Clippers center DeAndre Jordan. All three factors took their toll and the Wine & Gold were unable to run their road win streak to six – dropping the 116-102 decision at STAPLES Center. After jumping out to an early lead in their first game of the trip on Wednesday in Denver, the Cavaliers were never able to find solid footing in Tinseltown – falling behind by double-digits less than eight minutes into the affair and clawing to get over the hump the rest of the way. They cut L.A.’s 19-point lead to just four late in the third period, but that was as good as it’d get for Cleveland on Friday night. Rodney Hood was limited to just seven minutes of action after suffering from a lower back strain and Cedi Osman left the game midway through the third period with a left hi...

Report: Browns to Trade for WR Jarvis Landry

Image
The Browns will acquire Jarvis Landry from the Dolphins in exchange for two draft picks,  reports  ESPN's Adam Schefter. Both picks will not be in the first- or second-round.  Earlier this week, Landry signed a  non-exclusive franchise tender  worth $16 million. That allowed the team to explore trade options for the 25-year-old, who has made the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons.  Cleveland is reportedly discussing a contract extension with Landry to ensure he stays in Cleveland past the one year the franchise tag guarantees.  A second-round pick out of LSU in the 2014 draft, Landry has excelled as a sure-handed possession receiver in his first four seasons in the league. Landry has the NFL record for most receptions in the first four years of a career with 400—the next closest is Anquan Boldin, with 342—and led the league with 112 catches, to go along with 986 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, in 2017. He eclipsed the 1,000 re...

Dear Trolls, Don't Expect Radhika Apte 'To Wear Sari On The Beach'

Image
Radhika Apte has something to say about trolls: "Do people expect me to wear  a sari on a beach?" Actress Radhika Apte  is a tough one to  troll. In a recent interview, the actress was asked if online trolling bothers her and was enquired about how she deals with them, when Radhika told  DNA : "I don't know them, so I don't deal with them." Spoken like a boss lady, right? Last week, Radhika became the subject of massive trolling, after she Instagrammed a photo of herself on the beach, in which she can be seen enjoying the sunset in a bikini. Soon after, haters filled up the comment's section with vile remarks which are too indecent to be reproduced here - some even wished for an option to 'dislike' the photo. Radhika, however, told  DNA  that she was completely unaware of the trolling till she was notified about it. "I didn't even know I was being trolled till someone told me. It's ridiculous. Do people expect me to ...
